about

“Caves of Killala” (LIVE) is a live performance of a medley of 3 pieces of Irish music; the first a slow air, the second a jig, and the third is a rebel song that tells the tale of guns smuggled in from the Boer War to fight for freedom.

They smuggled in Springfield rifles, leftover from the Boer war
Hid them in a cave on a cold Killala shore
Our people in bondage, tested and tried
The fires of insurrection, guns by our side

While the forces of human nature gathered up its woes
The brotherhood stood waiting, waiting for the time to go
Men started gathering, there was the talk in the fields
And in the dusty pubs where the lads took their meals

In a cave in Killala lie the guns that will set us free
While we wait to march again from behind that hanging tree
No more words and no more talk, it's a terrible beauty
In a cave in Killala lie the guns that will set us free

My grandfather lived through the famine, he heard his sisters cry
He roamed those fields eating grass while his family slowly died
My father was a true republican, thought the devil was in the crown
I was just twelve years old, the night they shot him down

Now it’s true I'm my father’s son for he taught us to be brave
And my brothers and I grew up, playing soldiers in those caves
Now we meet at the stroke of midnight all the brothers of our cause
Eight hundred years in the chains they call English law

In a cave in Killala lie the guns that will set us free
While we wait to march again from behind that hanging tree
No more words and no more talk, it’s a terrible beauty
In a cave in Killala lie the guns that will set us free

In a cave in Killala lie the guns that will set us free
While we wait to march again from behind that hanging tree
No more words, no more talk, it’s a terrible beauty
In a cave in Killala lie the guns that will set us free
In a cave in Killala lie the guns that will set us free
In a cave in Killala lie the guns that will set us free
